If you ask Engr. Jun Perfecto, member of the NCAA South Policy Board and representative of the host school, Don Bosco Technical College for the NCAA South Season 9, sports could be anything about these two things: “It’s not about the winning but the playing”, and at the end of the day, sport speaks of nothing more but “the thrill of winning and the agony of defeat”. These to be exact, was what he shared with the number of delegates coming from the different member campuses on the morning of 13th of May 2008, the fateful day indicating the end of the NCAA South Season 9. Speaking of both sides of the mask, Engr. Perfecto explains that no one can always be on top. It’s a wheel of life after all; “but if you have the confidence, you can conquer the world” (a lesson he learned from their founder, Don Bosco). Athletes on that significant day, congregate to celebrate and claim their respective victorious titles alongside the applauses that echoed across Don Bosco Technical College’s Auditorium, the site where the 9th Season was marked done.

Among the triumphant is NCAA South Basketball- Men’s Division Champion, Philippine Christian University “Blue Dolphins”, with their player Jonathan D. Rivera who bagged a slot among the Mythical Five and brought home the Most Valuable Player title. Glory was obviously on the side of the University of Perpetual Help Systems Laguna, as well, as they successfully grabbed the title ‘Champion’ for Volleyball- Men’s Division and Basketball- Ladies’ Division, with Mary Kathryn Kris A. Cruz taking possession of the MVP title aside from getting in to the Mythical Five of the Ladies’ Division. San Beda College, Alabang was not to be left behind as they proudly receive their trophy with the title ‘Champion’ for the junior’s Basketball- Boys’ Division.

And like what they often say: for every end is a new beginning.

With a symbolic deed of handing out the flag which exhibits the spirit and all integrity of the National Collegiate Athletics Association- South, NCAA’s “Grey Wolves”, now delivers the privilege to the “Blue Dolphins” the task that needs to be done. Accepted with all sincerity, officer-in-charge, Professor Jordan Ramos of PCU – Dasmarinas Campus received the flag with pleasure spread across his face, as he implied in his speech a more recharged, fun-filled Season 10.

True to his word, everything’s been progressing as for the upcoming 10th Season. As the last season was marked done and over with, drum rolls has already began for the BLUE DOLPHINS who now aims to promote an even better NCAA South season dashing in conjunction with a commemorative Cavite, the heart of the Philippine Revolution, which opted to gear up as well for a festive occasion highlighting the bravery and patriotism of the Battle of Alapan’s Revolutionaries who won despite great odds.

Bravery or confidence it is, and the teamwork playing a vital role for every member schools inspired the Season 10’s theme: “Isang Dekadang Nagkakaisa sa Layunin, Pananampalataya, at Adhikain”. And because it is initially and always is dedicated to serve as a training ground for sportsmanship and camaraderie, it’s constantly a high time for students and friends of the NCAA south Schools to converge once again at the court and learn the basics of respect and discipline with sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Track and Field, Swimming, and Taekwondo; and the mind-boggling game, Chess.

The NCAA South, an annual encounter among southern athletes, now back for its 10th Season is bound to make a change of history for the 10-year athletics association at the known CALABARZON Region. Starting with its promotions by the following months, surely no one could miss a moment of being well informed. Kicking off with a blast this coming August 29, 2008, no one else could expect less of the NCAA South Season 10 but an evenly more exciting day marking a whole season filled of new hopes and joy.
